Although multiple baseline designs are the most common experimental designs in applied behavior analytic research, there are two distinct methodological arrangements under the umbrella of the multiple baseline experimental design. Multiple baselines can be conducted with the baseline and treatment presented synchronously (concurrent) or not synchronized in real time (non-concurrent). This article evaluates past and current concerns regarding the validity of the non-concurrent multiple baseline design.
